About the MINT Thread Lift

The MINT thread lift places absorbable MINT threads under the skin to lift and hold sagging tissue. MINT threads are made of PDO (polydioxanone) and are approved by Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) as facial tissue fixation threads. It may suit people bothered by sagging cheeks, jawline or mouth corners who want to avoid surgery with incisions. It is a minimally invasive procedure: after local anesthesia, the threads go in through small needle entry points. Miri Clinic's price list includes a 4-thread MINT thread lift.

How does the MINT thread lift work?

MINT threads are cog threads with small barbs arranged in 360° around the thread. Placed in a set layer under the skin, the barbs grip the surrounding tissue and help hold sagging tissue in its lifted position.

PDO, the thread material, is an absorbable material that has also been used in surgical sutures, and it slowly breaks down and is absorbed in the body over time. New collagen is known to form around the thread while it is absorbed, so besides the lifting effect it may also help with skin firmness.

Who is it for?

A thread lift generally targets sagging where the cheeks and jawline have dropped and the facial contour looks less defined, rather than fine lines on the skin surface. It may suit people with mild to moderate sagging who want a method with a lighter recovery than surgery with incisions.

If sagging is very severe or the skin is very loose, a thread lift alone may not give the change you want, so we check skin thickness and the degree of sagging at your consultation before deciding on the right method. Please tell us in advance if you have inflammation or a skin condition in the treatment area, are pregnant, have a bleeding disorder or take blood-thinning medication.

What happens on the day?

  • Consultation — we check the sagging areas, skin thickness, past lifting or filler treatments and current medications, and decide the direction and number of threads.
  • Design and anesthesia — after cleansing, we mark the thread paths on the skin and give local anesthesia where the threads will go in.
  • Placing the threads — MINT threads go in through small needle entry points and are fixed with the pulling direction and tension adjusted.
  • Finishing and going home — we trim the thread ends, check the treated area and you go home. It takes about 30–60 minutes including anesthesia; the steps and times are a general guide and may vary from person to person.

How much pain and recovery is there?

The procedure is done under local anesthesia, but you may feel stinging or a dull ache during the anesthetic injections and while the threads are placed, and how much you feel varies from person to person.

Swelling and bruising are common after the procedure and usually settle over about a week. It is best to avoid strenuous exercise for about 2 weeks while the threads settle, and please follow the aftercare instructions for when to resume washing your face and wearing makeup. Recovery varies from person to person.

What reactions can occur after the procedure?

Swelling, bruising and a dull ache are common and mostly settle with time. Rarely, tightness, an uneven-looking skin surface or inflammation may occur. If swelling or pain keeps getting worse, or you notice warmth or pus, please contact the clinic right away.

When will I see a change, and how long does it last?

Some people feel a lifted sensation right after the threads are placed and fixed, but your appearance may change gradually over the few weeks while swelling goes down and the threads settle. How long the change lasts depends on the degree of sagging, age, skin thickness and lifestyle, so it is hard to give a fixed period.

Usually you have it once and see how it goes; whether to have it again is decided at a consultation about a year later, if needed.

How much does the MINT thread lift cost?

A 4-thread MINT thread lift is ₩550,000, plus 10% VAT on cosmetic procedures. Please confirm the treatment plan for your face at your consultation.

Your exact diagnosis and treatment plan are decided at your consultation.

FAQ

What are the benefits of MINT thread lift?

The MINT thread is approved by Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) as a facial tissue fixation thread. The 360° 3D cogs around the thread help hold it in place within the skin tissue.

Does anything stay in the skin after treatment?

The MINT thread is made of PDO (polydioxanone), an absorbable material that breaks down in the body.

Which areas can be treated?

Threads can be placed in many areas that need care, and they lift or hold the skin tissue to help improve wrinkles.

How is the treatment done?

It is a minimally invasive procedure done under local anesthesia. Swelling and bruising usually settle within about a week, and recovery varies from person to person.

How many threads are used in a MINT thread lift?

The item on Miri Clinic's price list is the 4-thread MINT thread lift (₩550,000, plus 10% VAT on cosmetic procedures). The sagging areas and degree differ from person to person, so the treatment plan for your face is decided at your consultation.

Can I go to work the day after?

Whether you can go to work depends on your job and how much swelling and bruising you have. Swelling and bruising usually settle over about a week and vary from person to person, so if you have an important event, it is best to choose the treatment date together at your consultation.

Can the threads be felt or seen from outside?

The threads are placed in a set layer under the skin. While there is swelling, the treated area may feel firm or look uneven, which usually settles with time. If this lasts a long time or you can feel a thread end, please have it checked at the clinic.

Can I have it together with filler or botulinum toxin?

Some people do, but the order and interval of treatments depend on your skin condition and past treatments. If you have had a treatment recently, please be sure to tell us at your consultation.

What should I avoid after the procedure?

It is best to avoid strenuous exercise for about 2 weeks. While the threads settle, it is also best to be careful with saunas and hot packs, massages that press or rub the face hard, and opening your mouth wide; please follow the aftercare instructions for how long to avoid these. Alcohol and smoking may slow recovery.
