About Filler

Filler is a treatment in which a hyaluronic acid gel is injected into areas lacking volume, aiming to fill hollow areas and soften uneven lines and deep wrinkles. It may be worth considering if lost volume makes your face look hollow or you are concerned about deep wrinkles; numbing cream is applied, local anesthesia is added when needed, and then the filler is injected. Miri Clinic's price list includes a filler item, which states that it is done only in the areas needed, in the amount needed, with the cost available on request.

How does hyaluronic acid filler restore volume?

Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally present in the skin and is known to attract and hold water. When hyaluronic acid made into a gel is placed under a hollow area, it fills the space by its volume and helps even out the surface.

Injected filler is gradually broken down and absorbed in the body over time, and how fast depends on the product, the area, your age and lifestyle, so it is hard to state for certain. Each product differs in particle size and firmness, so the right product may differ by area, and whether to have it again is usually decided at a consultation about 6 months to 1 year later, depending on the product and area.

What concerns is it used for?

Filler is generally used for cheeks, temples or under-eye areas that look hollow from lost volume, for deep wrinkles such as smile lines, and for refining facial lines such as the forehead and chin.

Wrinkles that appear only when you make an expression are often caused by muscle movement, so botulinum toxin is sometimes discussed as well. We first check at your appointment whether the cause is hollowness or movement.

Is there anything I should tell you before having filler?

Please let us know in advance if you have inflammation or a skin condition in the treatment area, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or take blood-thinning medication.

If you have had filler or another injection treatment in the same area before, telling us when and what you had also helps with planning. While previously injected filler remains, whether to add more in the same place is best decided after checking how much remains.

How is it done on the day?

  • Consultation and design — we look at the hollow areas and facial balance to decide where and how much to inject, and check your past filler or thread lift history and any medications you take.
  • Anesthesia — after cleansing, numbing cream is applied, and local anesthesia is added if needed.
  • Injection — filler is placed little by little at the chosen points while checking the shape.
  • Check and going home — the area is checked, you are told the aftercare points, and you go home. The injection takes about 10–30 minutes, with separate time for anesthesia; the steps and times are a general guide and may vary from person to person.

How much pain and recovery is there?

Even with anesthesia, you may feel a dull ache or pressure during the injection; the sensation may differ by area, and how much you feel varies from person to person. You can usually go about your daily life right away, but swelling and bruising may remain for several days, so if you have an important event, it is best to allow plenty of time.

It is best to wear makeup from the next day. Pressing or rubbing the injected area hard, a lot of heat such as saunas or hot rooms, and heavy drinking can increase swelling and bruising, so it is best to avoid them for a while; please follow the aftercare instructions for how long. Recovery varies from person to person.

What reactions can occur after the procedure?

Swelling, bruising and a lumpy feeling where the injected area feels firm are common and usually settle with time. Rarely, inflammation may occur.

Very rarely, blood-vessel problems may occur in which the filler presses on or blocks a blood vessel. If the treated area becomes increasingly painful or the skin turns white or bluish, please contact the clinic right away.

How is the cost of filler decided?

Instead of a set amount, filler is listed on the price list as “only in the areas needed, in the amount needed · cost on request”. The cost is known only once the areas and amount are decided, so please check it at your consultation. Plus 10% VAT on cosmetic procedures.

Your exact diagnosis and treatment plan are decided at your consultation.

FAQ

What is the difference between botulinum toxin and filler?

Botulinum toxin is used to reduce muscle movement and soften expression wrinkles, while filler is used to fill hollow areas and refine volume and lines. The right method differs depending on the cause of the wrinkles, so we look at this together at your appointment.

What if I don't like the filler that was injected?

Hyaluronic acid filler is known to be dissolvable with a dissolving enzyme. However, it is too early to judge the shape before the swelling goes down, so if anything bothers you, please let the clinic know first.

What if I feel a lump where the filler was injected?

A lumpy feeling where the injected area feels firm is a common reaction and usually settles with time. Watch it without pressing or kneading it hard, but if it lasts a long time or gets bigger, please have it checked at the clinic.

Can I have it on the same day as other treatments?

Some people have it together with botulinum toxin or laser treatments, but the order and interval depend on the type of treatment and your skin condition. If you have had a treatment recently, please tell us at your consultation.
