Botulinum toxin
High‑purity Korean toxin
This treatment, often called “Botox,” uses botulinum toxin as its main ingredient. It reduces muscle activity for a period of time to improve facial wrinkles.
Beyond small areas of the face, it may also help with a square jaw, the trapezius and calf muscles, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) and underarm odor.
Results last 2–6 months depending on the area, so regular treatment is important.

About High-Purity Korean Botulinum Toxin
High-purity Korean botulinum toxin is a treatment in which Korean-made botulinum toxin is injected into wrinkle-forming muscles or the jaw muscles to ease the muscles' strength for a while. Miri Clinic presents this product as a high-purity Korean botulinum toxin aimed at reducing concerns about resistance. It may be worth considering if you have had botulinum toxin many times, or if you are concerned about an area that takes a large dose at once, such as a square jaw; when needed, numbing cream or a cold pack is used before the injection. Miri Clinic's price list includes wrinkle botulinum toxin (Korean, high-purity) and square jaw botulinum toxin (Korean, high-purity).
What does “high-purity” mean?
Besides the ingredient that produces the effect, botulinum toxin products may also contain accessory components. “High-purity” is a term commonly used to mean the product has been refined to reduce these accessory components and focus on the active ingredient.
Even when the same term “high-purity” is used, the manufacturing method and degree of refinement can differ from product to product. Please check the name and features of the product used at your consultation.
What is botulinum toxin resistance, and why does it matter?
It is known that, with repeated botulinum toxin injections, the body may rarely make antibodies to the ingredient, so the same dose has less effect. This is commonly called “resistance”, and once it develops, it is known that other botulinum toxin products may also have less effect.
Some suggest this may be more likely the larger the dose given at once and the more often it is injected at short intervals. It is hard to say that any product fully prevents resistance, so it is best to look at the interval and dose as well as the product.
Who might consider it?
It may be worth considering when choosing a product if previous results felt shorter or weaker than before, or if you want ongoing care for an area that needs a large dose, such as a square jaw.
However, it is hard to pin down a single reason why the effect feels weaker, so at your appointment we look at your muscle condition together with your past treatment history.
What is the flow on the day?
- Checking your treatment history — we ask about the product and date of your last botulinum toxin treatment and how long the effect lasted, and look at the muscle movement in the area of concern to decide where and how much to inject.
- Preparation — after cleansing, the injection points are marked; if you are worried about stinging, numbing cream or a cold pack is used.
- Injection and going home — the injections are divided across the chosen points, the injection sites are checked and you go home. The injections take about 10–20 minutes, with about 30 more minutes if numbing cream is used; the steps and times are a general guide and may vary from person to person.
Does a high-purity product last longer?
“High-purity” refers to how refined the product is; it is not a promise about how long the effect lasts. How long the effect lasts depends on the area and dose, muscle strength and lifestyle, so it is hard to state based on the product alone.
At Miri Clinic, we usually advise about 4–6 months when it is injected into muscles such as the jaw, calves or trapezius, and about 2–3 months for wrinkles or skin botulinum toxin; how long it lasts varies from person to person.
Why does the interval between treatments matter?
At Miri Clinic, although it varies from person to person, we usually advise intervals of 3–6 months for a square jaw and 3–4 months for wrinkles.
Rather than rushing to top up while the effect still remains, deciding the next date by looking at how far the muscle has recovered may also help in managing resistance. The date of your next treatment is decided at your consultation.
What reactions and daily life can I expect after the procedure?
Needle marks, small bruises and headaches are common, and rarely drooping eyebrows or awkwardness in facial expressions or chewing may occur. Most of these settle with time, but if discomfort keeps getting worse, please contact the clinic.
You can wash your face and wear makeup on the day of the procedure, and it is best to avoid alcohol, saunas and strenuous exercise for about 1 week.
How much does high-purity Korean botulinum toxin cost?
Wrinkle botulinum toxin (Korean, high-purity) is ₩33,000 per session, and square jaw botulinum toxin (Korean, high-purity) is ₩50,000 per session. Both prices are the per-session price in a 3-session package, plus 10% VAT on cosmetic procedures.
Your exact diagnosis and treatment plan are decided at your consultation.
FAQ
Once I start botulinum toxin (often called “Botox”), do I have to keep getting it?
Not necessarily. Some people get it again after the effect wears off because they liked the change while it lasted. Whether to get it again is up to you.
I hear botulinum toxin is a toxin. Is it harmful to my body?
Botox is injected in small, divided amounts suited to each area. Needle marks or small bruises are common, and brow droop or a stiff expression or chewing can rarely occur, so we assess your condition at the consultation before treatment.
How long do results last?
For muscle areas such as the jaw, calves or trapezius, results usually last about 4 to 6 months, and for wrinkles or skin toxin about 2 to 3 months. How long results last varies from person to person.
When does botulinum toxin start to work, and how long does it last?
Botulinum toxin usually starts to work within 2 to 4 weeks. For muscle areas such as the jaw, calves or trapezius, you can expect results to last about 4 to 6 months.
How often should I get botulinum toxin?
It varies from person to person, but we usually recommend every 3 to 6 months for the square jaw and every 3 to 4 months for wrinkles.
Is there any aftercare?
Avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise and saunas for about a week. You can wash your face, shower and wear makeup the same day.
What does skin toxin do?
Skin toxin places botulinum toxin in the shallow layer of the skin and can help with fine lines and enlarged pores. Results vary from person to person.
When does skin toxin take effect, and how long does it last?
Your face may feel slightly tight for about a week after treatment. Results vary, but usually last about 2 to 3 months.
If botulinum toxin I had before did not seem to work well, can I have this?
Besides resistance, there can be several reasons why the effect was weaker, such as the dose, injection points or muscle condition. If you tell us the product, date and area of your past treatment, we will look into it at your appointment and decide whether and how to proceed.
Can I lie down right after the procedure?
You are often advised not to lie down or lie face down for a while right after the procedure. Please follow the aftercare instructions for how long to avoid this.
Can high-purity products also cause bruising or headaches?
Yes. Regardless of the type of product, reactions such as needle marks, small bruises and headaches can occur. They usually settle with time, but if discomfort keeps getting worse or lasts a long time, please contact the clinic.
This is my first square jaw botulinum toxin treatment. Can I start with a high-purity product?
Yes, you can choose a high-purity product for your first treatment too. The product can be decided at your consultation, taking into account the treatment area, your budget and whether you plan to continue treatments.
