Wrinkles that fold every time you make an expression, such as on the forehead, between the brows or around the eyes, are known to deepen as the muscles underneath move repeatedly. Botulinum toxin temporarily reduces the signals that nerves send to the muscles, helping the muscles contract less.

When muscle movement decreases, the skin above folds less, which may help wrinkles look softer. Wrinkles that are deeply set even at rest may not be a muscle issue alone, so we first check the type of wrinkle at your appointment.

Wrinkle botulinum toxin places small amounts divided across several points in the thin facial expression muscles, while square jaw botulinum toxin is injected into the thick jaw muscles used for chewing. They are also listed as two separate items on the price list.

If well-developed jaw muscles make the lower face look angular, the jawline may look different as the muscle volume gradually decreases. If the cause is the shape of the jawbone or soft tissue, there may be little change, so an appointment that checks your chewing strength and muscle size comes first.

Besides facial wrinkles and a square jaw, Miri Clinic's botulinum toxin treatments also cover excessive calf and trapezius muscles, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) and underarm odor. Botulinum toxin can also reduce nerve signals to the sweat glands, so it is known to be used for concerns about heavy sweating as well.

The price list on this page only has two items, wrinkles and square jaw, so please check the cost for body areas or hyperhidrosis at your consultation.

Even in the same area, muscle strength, size and left–right differences vary from person to person. Tailoring to each area means deciding the injection points and dose to suit that person's muscle condition, and Miri Clinic decides the dose through a one-on-one consultation.

“Genuine product, measured dose” means using an approved product and injecting the set amount. If you are curious about the product or amount used, please ask at your consultation.

You may feel a sting as the needle goes in, and how much you feel varies from person to person. You can wash your face and wear makeup from the same day, and it is best to avoid alcohol, saunas and strenuous exercise for about 1 week.

Needle marks, small bruises or headaches are common, and rarely the eyebrows may droop or facial expressions or chewing may feel awkward. If discomfort keeps getting worse, please contact the clinic.

If it is your first time, the feeling of reduced muscle strength may be unfamiliar. We advise that the effect mainly appears within 2⁠–⁠4 weeks, so if you have an important event, it is best to choose a date that leaves that much time.

Taking photos with the same expressions before the procedure helps you check the change later. Whether to have it again is decided at your consultation based on how far the muscle has recovered.
