Botulinum toxin
A purified toxin free of complexing proteins
This treatment, often called “Botox,” uses botulinum toxin as its main ingredient. It reduces muscle activity for a period of time to improve facial wrinkles.
Beyond small areas of the face, it may also help with a square jaw, the trapezius and calf muscles, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) and underarm odor.
Results last 2–6 months depending on the area, so regular treatment is important.

About Imported Botulinum Toxin (Xeomin)
Imported botulinum toxin (Xeomin) is a treatment in which Xeomin, a botulinum toxin product brought in from overseas, is injected to reduce the movement of facial expression muscles or the jaw muscles for a while. Miri Clinic presents Xeomin as a product with the complexing proteins removed. It may be worth considering if you have had botulinum toxin repeatedly or want to choose a product by looking closely at its composition; when needed, numbing cream or a cold pack is used before the injection. Miri Clinic's price list includes wrinkle botulinum toxin (imported Xeomin) and square jaw botulinum toxin (imported Xeomin).
What kind of product is Xeomin?
Xeomin is one of the botulinum toxin products, and it is known to be made by filtering out the complexing proteins that surround the active ingredient, leaving only that ingredient.
Xeomin is the product name, and its ingredient name is known to be incobotulinumtoxinA.
What does it mean that the complexing proteins are filtered out?
Complexing proteins are proteins that surround and protect the active ingredient, and they are known not to produce the effect themselves. It is known that with repeated injections of the same ingredient, the body may rarely develop neutralizing antibodies that weaken the effect, and some suggest that complexing proteins may be involved in this process.
That is why a product with the complexing proteins filtered out is a point of reference when people concerned about resistance from repeated treatments choose a product. However, it is hard to say for certain that resistance will not develop with any product, and the interval and dose should also be considered.
What concerns is Xeomin used for?
Miri Clinic's Xeomin treatment is for people concerned about wrinkles or fine lines that come with age, wrinkles that deepen when smiling, or facial asymmetry between the left and right sides. People concerned about hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) or underarm odor, or about calf or trapezius muscles, are also included.
The price list has two items, wrinkles and square jaw; please check the cost for use on other areas at your consultation.
What are the steps of a Xeomin treatment?
- Consultation and muscle check — we look at your muscle movement as you frown, smile or clench your teeth, and decide where and how much to inject.
- Numbing cream or cold pack — when needed, numbing cream is applied or the injection points are cooled to prepare for the sting.
- Injection — the product is divided across the chosen points with a fine needle.
- Finishing — the injection sites are checked, you are told the aftercare points, and you go home. The injections take about 10–20 minutes, with about 30 more minutes if numbing cream is used; the steps and times are a general guide and may vary from person to person.
How much stinging and what common reactions can I expect?
You may feel a sting as the needle goes in, or the injection site may puff up briefly, and needle marks, small bruises and headaches are common. Puffiness at the injection site usually settles within a short time.
Rarely, drooping eyebrows or awkwardness in facial expressions or chewing may occur, so if discomfort keeps getting worse, please contact the clinic.
Is there anything to be careful about before and after the procedure?
Please let us know in advance if you have a wound or inflammation in the area to be injected, or if you take blood-thinning medication. Blood-thinning medication can make bruising more likely.
You can wash your face and wear makeup from the same day, and it is best to stay away from alcohol, saunas and strenuous exercise for about 1 week. Right after the procedure, it is known to be best not to rub or massage the injection sites hard, so that the ingredient does not spread to unwanted muscles.
Can I switch to Xeomin after having Korean botulinum toxin?
Some people do switch products. It is known that botulinum toxin units and doses differ by product, so they are hard to convert directly using the same number; if you tell us the product, amount and date of your past treatment, we will decide again at your appointment.
After switching, how it feels and how long the effect lasts differ from person to person, so when switching for the first time it is best to watch how things go before deciding on the next treatment. If anything was uncomfortable in a past treatment, please let us know as well.
How much does imported botulinum toxin (Xeomin) cost?
Wrinkle botulinum toxin (imported Xeomin) is ₩50,000 per session and square jaw botulinum toxin (imported Xeomin) is ₩84,000 per session; both prices are the per-session price in a 3-session package. Plus 10% VAT on cosmetic procedures.
Your exact diagnosis and treatment plan are decided at your consultation.
FAQ
Once I start botulinum toxin (often called “Botox”), do I have to keep getting it?
Not necessarily. Some people get it again after the effect wears off because they liked the change while it lasted. Whether to get it again is up to you.
I hear botulinum toxin is a toxin. Is it harmful to my body?
Botox is injected in small, divided amounts suited to each area. Needle marks or small bruises are common, and brow droop or a stiff expression or chewing can rarely occur, so we assess your condition at the consultation before treatment.
How long do results last?
For muscle areas such as the jaw, calves or trapezius, results usually last about 4 to 6 months, and for wrinkles or skin toxin about 2 to 3 months. How long results last varies from person to person.
When does botulinum toxin start to work, and how long does it last?
Botulinum toxin usually starts to work within 2 to 4 weeks. For muscle areas such as the jaw, calves or trapezius, you can expect results to last about 4 to 6 months.
How often should I get botulinum toxin?
It varies from person to person, but we usually recommend every 3 to 6 months for the square jaw and every 3 to 4 months for wrinkles.
Is there any aftercare?
Avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise and saunas for about a week. You can wash your face, shower and wear makeup the same day.
What does skin toxin do?
Skin toxin places botulinum toxin in the shallow layer of the skin and can help with fine lines and enlarged pores. Results vary from person to person.
When does skin toxin take effect, and how long does it last?
Your face may feel slightly tight for about a week after treatment. Results vary, but usually last about 2 to 3 months.
Can Xeomin also be used for a square jaw?
The price list includes square jaw botulinum toxin (imported Xeomin). Whether it suits you depends on the size of your jaw muscles and your chewing strength, so it is decided after a check at your appointment.
Can I have it while pregnant or breastfeeding?
It is common to postpone botulinum toxin treatment during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If this applies to you, please be sure to tell us before your consultation.
Can it be used for facial asymmetry?
Improving facial asymmetry is included in Miri Clinic's treatment scope. It may help when the asymmetry comes from a difference in muscle strength; if the cause is a difference in bone or soft tissue, there may be little change, so we first check the cause at your appointment.
If there are no complexing proteins, do I not need to worry about resistance?
Even with a product that has the complexing proteins filtered out, it is hard to say for certain that resistance will never develop. It is best to avoid overlapping injections at short intervals or a large dose at once, and please tell us your past treatment history at your consultation.
