RevLite toning

Treatment for skin pigmentation

Melasma treatment addresses facial pigment such as melasma and blemishes with RevLite SI laser toning and recovery care.

RevLite SI toning, made by Cynosure in the US, is a laser with higher energy than conventional toning. It uses two wavelengths, 1064 nm and 532 nm, to improve a range of pigmented lesions. Its high-output energy treats melanin in both the dermis and the epidermis, helping with melasma, freckles, blemishes, age spots and nevus of Ota.

About RevLite Toning

Melasma treatment is a procedure in which you receive toning with the RevLite SI laser, made by Cynosure in the US, followed by recovery care. It may suit people concerned about facial pigment and dull skin tone, such as melasma spread around the cheeks and cheekbones, freckles and blemishes, or brown marks left after breakouts. Toning is usually done without anesthesia. Miri Clinic's price list includes laser toning (RevLite) + recovery care in 3-session and 5-session items.

How does RevLite toning work?

Laser toning is generally known to work by passing the laser evenly over the whole face several times, breaking down the melanin pigment in the skin into smaller pieces little by little. It does not peel away the skin surface, and rather than treating strongly in one go, it aims to lighten pigment over several sessions.

RevLite SI uses two wavelengths, 1064 nm and 532 nm. Each wavelength reaches a different depth in the skin, and they are known to be used to target melanin in the epidermis and dermis separately.

How can I tell if my pigment is melasma?

Besides melasma, facial pigment comes in several types, such as freckles, blemishes, age spots and nevus of Ota, and because they form at different depths and for different reasons, the right treatment approach may also differ. Melasma generally appears as light brown patches spreading in a similar shape on both cheeks and cheekbones, and it is known to be related to UV and hormonal changes.

It is also common for several types of pigment to be mixed on one face, so we first check the type and depth of the pigment at your consultation before planning toning. Please tell us at your consultation if you are pregnant or have recently been heavily tanned by the sun.

What happens on the day of toning?

  • Skin assessment — we check the type and extent of pigment, how sensitive your skin is, and any recent procedures.
  • Cleansing — makeup and sunscreen are removed thoroughly, and your eyes are prepared for protection from the laser light.
  • Laser toning — the RevLite SI laser is passed evenly over the whole face.
  • Recovery care and going home — after the laser, recovery care soothes the skin, and then you go home. It takes about 30–40 minutes including recovery care. The order and timing are general guidance and may vary from person to person.

What about pain and recovery?

When the laser touches the skin, you may feel a light sting like the snap of a rubber band, or warmth; how it feels differs from person to person.

Brief redness may appear after the procedure, and in many cases people carry on with daily life afterward and wear makeup the same day. However, the skin is sensitive at this point, so on the day it is best to avoid rubbing hard when cleansing or exfoliating, and recovery varies from person to person.

What reactions can occur after the procedure?

Brief redness is common and usually settles over time. Rarely, skin color may lighten unevenly in patches, or the melasma may instead become darker.

If redness lasts a long time, or you see areas that have turned white or become darker, please tell the clinic before your next session. Depending on the reaction, the session interval and intensity may be adjusted.

How many sessions, and how far apart?

Melasma toning is generally done several times, about 1–2 weeks apart. The price list also has 3-session and 5-session items, and how many sessions suit you is decided at your consultation based on the amount of pigment and how your skin reacts after each session.

Melasma is known to darken again easily due to factors such as UV and hormones, so it is important to keep up sun protection both during the toning period and afterward. A habit of shading yourself from the sun with a hat or parasol may also help, and how much it changes and how long that lasts differ from person to person.

How much does RevLite toning cost?

Laser toning (RevLite) + recovery care is ₩299,000 for 3 sessions and ₩490,000 for 5 sessions, plus 10% VAT on cosmetic procedures. The 3-session item is labeled “including recovery care after the laser”, so it includes recovery care after the laser. Please check the number of sessions that suits your pigment at your consultation.

Your exact diagnosis and treatment plan are decided at your consultation.

FAQ

Can it be treated in one session?

One session alone rarely shows improvement, so we recommend a schedule and number of sessions suited to you.

Who is it good for?

It can aim to improve overall melasma and dull skin tone, and may also be considered for brown pigmentation left by breakouts.

What does recovery care involve?

The laser toning (RevLite) + recovery care items on the price list include recovery care after the laser. Post-laser care generally aims to soothe skin that has become sensitive; please check the specific contents at your consultation.

How do I choose between 3 and 5 sessions?

The number of sessions needed differs from person to person depending on the amount and spread of pigment and how the skin reacts after treatment. After looking at your pigment at your consultation, we decide together which of the 3-session or 5-session options suits you.

Can I get toning in summer too?

Many people have it regardless of the season, but when the sun is strong you need to pay more attention to sun protection. If you have plans that involve long sun exposure, such as a vacation, please set your session dates with us at your consultation.

Can it be combined with melasma creams or oral medication?

Melasma is sometimes managed with topical products or oral medication as well. If you are currently using any products or medication, letting us know at your consultation will help in planning your toning.

How should I care for my skin during the toning period?

It is best to keep up moisturizing and sun protection consistently. Strong treatments such as peels and scrubs are best scheduled so they do not overlap with your toning sessions, so please check the aftercare instructions before using them.
