About Men’s Laser Hair Removal

Men's laser hair removal applies a laser to upper-lip and chin beard hair or underarm hair, aiming to reduce the ability of the hair follicles to grow hair again. It may suit men who find daily shaving a hassle, who often get redness and stinging after shaving, or who are bothered by the dark shadow that remains even after shaving. Areas with thick hair such as the beard may sting, so numbing cream is applied if needed before the procedure. Miri Clinic's price list includes 5-session items for the underarms, upper lip, upper lip + chin, and full beard (jaw).

Does the laser work on thick, dark beard hair?

Laser hair removal targets the hair follicle with heat produced when the pigment in the hair absorbs light, so it is generally known that the darker and thicker the hair, the better the laser works. Dark, thick beard hair has these characteristics.

However, beard hair grows densely and keeps growing under the influence of male hormones, so changes may be felt more slowly than in other areas of the body, and some hair may remain even after 5 sessions. White beard hair or very fine hair may respond less to the laser.

How do I choose between upper lip, upper lip + chin and full beard?

On the price list, the beard areas are divided into three items: upper lip (5 sessions), upper lip + chin (5 sessions) and full beard (jaw) (5 sessions). You choose based on whether only the hair under your nose bothers you, or you also want to tidy the beard that continues down to your chin.

The shape and extent of beard growth differ from person to person, so please check at your consultation, by looking at your actual beard, how much of the face each item covers. Underarm hair removal (5 sessions) is listed as a separate item from the beard items.

How much does beard hair removal sting?

The sting of beard hair removal often lasts only for the brief moment the laser touches the skin, and a single area such as the upper lip or chin does not take long.

Many people feel a sting like the snap of a rubber band or a brief flash of heat when the laser touches the skin, and the upper lip and chin, where hair is thick and dense, may sting more than other areas. How it feels differs from person to person, so if you are worried, please ask at your consultation about using numbing cream.

As sessions add up and there is less hair for the laser to hit, some people feel less stinging, but this also differs from person to person.

What is the order of steps on the day?

  • Consultation — we decide the area the laser will cover according to the item you chose, and check your skin for any cuts or breakouts from shaving.
  • Trimming and anesthesia — we trim any remaining beard hair short and, if needed, apply numbing cream and wait for it to take effect.
  • Laser — you wear eye protection, and the laser is applied along the chosen area. It takes about 5–20 minutes depending on the area, with extra time for anesthesia.
  • Soothing and going home — we soothe the beard area, explain how to care for your skin after shaving and you go home. The steps and times are a general guide and may vary from person to person.

How should I shave and care for my skin after the procedure?

Red, slightly raised bumps along the beard pores are common and usually settle within a few hours. While the skin is red, avoid anything irritating such as razor blades or alcohol-based aftershave, and please follow the aftercare instructions for when to start shaving again.

Rarely, blisters or scabs may form, or the skin may darken or lighten. If the stinging keeps getting worse or you see blisters, please contact the clinic right away, and it's best to apply sunscreen regularly during the treatment period.

How far apart are the 5 sessions?

Hair alternates between growing and resting phases, and the laser is known to work well on actively growing hair, so it is done over several sessions. For facial areas where hair grows quickly, such as the upper lip, the interval is often set at about 4 to 8 weeks.

It's common for the beard to grow back between sessions, so you can tidy it by shaving until your next date. The date of your next session is decided by looking at how the beard is growing back, and whether to have more after the 5 sessions is decided at your consultation based on how much hair remains.

How much does men's laser hair removal cost?

Underarm hair removal (5 sessions) is ₩79,000, upper lip (5 sessions) is ₩150,000, upper lip + chin (5 sessions) is ₩290,000 and full beard (jaw) (5 sessions) is ₩340,000, plus 10% VAT on cosmetic procedures. You can choose the item that matches the extent of your beard at your consultation.

Your exact diagnosis and treatment plan are decided at your consultation.

FAQ

What should I do with my beard the day before the procedure?

Plucking beard hair with tweezers or removing it from the root by waxing leaves no hair root for the laser to target, so it is known to be best to avoid these methods during the treatment period. Please follow the instructions given when you booked for when to shave before you come.

Can I go to work the day after the procedure?

Redness and swelling around the pores usually settle within a few hours, but how noticeable they are varies from person to person. If you have an important occasion or event, it's best to set the date of your procedure in advance at your consultation.

Can I have it if my skin often gets irritated from shaving?

If there is inflammation or a cut in the area to be treated, it may be better to wait until it settles, so we decide the date after checking your skin condition at your appointment. If you often get breakouts after shaving lately, please let us know at your consultation.

Can I keep part of my beard and have the rest done?

The price list has three items: upper lip, upper lip + chin, and full beard. If there is a beard shape you'd like to keep, please tell us at your consultation and check there which areas can be treated.
