About Face Contouring Injections
Face contouring injections are given into the fat layer where fat has built up, such as the side cheeks, double chin and deep cheek fat, with the aim of reducing fat volume and refining the facial line. They may suit people whose face looks large and wide, or whose facial line looks blurred because of fat under the chin or at the sides of the cheeks; when needed, numbing cream or a cold pack is used before the injection. Miri Clinic's price list includes a special contouring injection, 3 cc.
How does an injection into the fat layer work?
Fat-reducing injections generally put medication into the fat layer under the skin, aiming to help the fat there break down and let the body gradually process and clear it. Miri Clinic describes face contouring injections as a procedure that aims to support fat breakdown along with peripheral blood and lymphatic circulation.
It takes time for the medication to act and for the body to process the fat, so changes are often felt gradually over several sessions rather than right after the procedure. Please check the ingredients and formulation of the medication at your consultation.
What if my face looks large for a reason other than fat?
A face can look wide not only because of fat but also because of developed jaw muscles, bone shape or sagging skin. Face contouring injections are used where there is fat, so if muscle or bone is the cause, a different method may suit you better. Even if fat is the cause, if skin elasticity has dropped considerably, sagging may become more noticeable after the fat is reduced.
At your consultation, we feel the cheeks and under the chin to see which is the main factor — fat, muscle or sagging — before deciding on the right method.
Is there anything I should tell you beforehand?
Please let us know in advance if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have inflammation or a skin condition in the treatment area, or take blood-thinning medication. If you have had procedures such as filler or a thread lift in the same area, please also tell us what you had and when.
If your face often swells or looks very different in size between morning and evening, please mention that at your consultation as well. Fat and swelling may be managed differently.
What happens on the day of face contouring injections?
- Consultation and design — we look at where fat has built up and the balance of your face, decide the area to inject and mark it on the skin.
- Preparation — after cleansing and disinfection, numbing cream or a cold pack is applied if you are worried about stinging.
- Injection and going home — the injections are divided across the fat layer within the marked area, the injection sites are checked, and you go home. It takes about 10–20 minutes. The order and timing are general guidance and may vary from person to person.
How should I take care after the procedure?
Swelling, bruising and soreness at the injection sites are common and, though it varies from person to person, usually settle within a few days. Most people carry on with daily life right away, but if you have an important event, it is best to leave plenty of time before it.
While there is swelling, it is best to avoid pressing hard on or rubbing the injection sites, activities that heat up the face such as saunas or hot packs, and heavy drinking; please follow the aftercare instructions on how long to avoid them. Rarely, a small lump may be felt at an injection site; if it lasts a long time or grows, please have it checked at the clinic.
Why are several sessions needed rather than one?
Fat-reducing injections are generally given in divided amounts over several sessions while watching the changes, rather than putting a large amount into one area at once. At Miri Clinic, we recommend 3 or more sessions, 2 weeks apart.
How well the reduced volume holds can be affected by changes in body weight after the procedure, so it is best to manage your weight and lifestyle as well. During the treatment period, keeping your current weight steady rather than losing or gaining weight quickly also makes it easier to see the changes, and the degree of change varies from person to person.
How much does the special contouring injection, 3 cc, cost?
The special contouring injection, 3 cc, is ₩99,000, plus 10% VAT on cosmetic procedures. Please check the total cost of several sessions 2 weeks apart, and the treatment plan that suits your face, at your consultation.
Your exact diagnosis and treatment plan are decided at your consultation.

How is jaw botulinum toxin different from face contouring injections?
